Lake Ashtabula is a favored recreational destination in the Valley City area. Here you can find great fishing, boating, skiing, and camping or just relax on the beach. Maintained by the Corps of Engineers, this 27-mile channel also houses Baldhill Dam for flood control as well as a fish hatchery. Come explore the area and appreciate the natural beauty of Lake Ashtabula.

The 63-mile Sheyenne River Valley National Scenic Byway follows along the Sheyenne River, stretching from the Baldhill Dam to Lisbon, ND. Take the drive and enjoy the sights and many stops along the way with award-winning interpretive panels to provide information and direction. You will encounter many points of interest ranging from historical landmarks to natural phenomena and more.

Stretching for an entire 4,600 miles from Vermont to Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota, the North Country National Scenic Trail follows a picturesque path along the Great Lakes and into the Midwest. Take an extended hike or just an hour to enjoy the beauty of the trail.
